Brandon Stevens is the rare vocalist with the ability to glide from classic Soul, to Funk, to modern R&B and Pop, with ease and conviction. Since the mid-2000s, his smooth, silky voice has carved its own space in the hearts of audiences from the U.S. to Europe. Brandon’s versatility and command of the stage have built a cadre of loyal followers who consistently pack venues across the Carolinas to see him perform. The breadth of his experience, dedication to his craft, and rapport with his audience are undoubtedly converging at the perfect time to reveal one of music’s rising stars.
Growing up in Columbia, South Carolina, Brandon became enamored with writing songs and playing piano by the time he was a teenager. While earning a degree in graphic design from Winthrop University, he realized that music was his true passion. Brandon quickly became a campus favorite at talent shows and open mics. He also wrote and co-produced several songs that were featured on an independently-released album featuring all student talent.
Following college, Brandon formed the R&B/Hip-Hop band Mellogroove with two of his undergrad classmates. They developed their sound in the Rock Hill, South Carolina club scene, and would go on to open shows for several national artists, including The Nappy Roots, Christopher Williams, and Calvin Richardson. In 2019, Mellogroove was honored by the City of Rock Hill as a Historic Musical Group.
During a ten-year stint with renowned Soul/Beach music group Chairmen of the Board, Brandon lit up the Southeastern U.S. festival and theatre circuit, and completed two critically-acclaimed UK tours. The Funk and Soul Revue said of the Chairmen’s 2018 London performance, “it was Brandon Stevens who really impressed on his lead vocals. His powerful, churchy voice was a real delight to hear.” The Chairmen’s 2017 album ‘Words Left Unsaid’ features songs written by Melvin and Mervin Steals, the twin brothers who penned The Spinners’ classic ‘Could It Be I’m Falling In Love.’ Brandon shines on the lead vocals for ‘All I Need Is You Tonight’ and ‘Each Morning I Wake Up,’ a remake of Major Harris’ 1975 hit.
Brandon’s single ‘What If,’ released in January 2024, is the latest showcase of his depth as a solo artist. The song echoes the lamentations of a man who’s lost a love due to his own willful neglect. Written and produced by Smooth Jazz guitarist and R&B producer/songwriter David P. Stevens (whose credits include Will Downing and Maysa), it will remind listeners of the classic Motown sound, stylishly remodeled to fit the landscape of contemporary R&B.
